Well this is new! I wanted to take my stab at writing some articles about all things flute related. Over the years I've read many many posts from flutists online and in magazines (yes, of course, the inescapable FluteTalk from undergrad). I never thought I would be one of interest to start writing my own, but here we are!
I guess I should introduce myself for those who don't know me. Hi, my name is Jeff Harley. I'm a flutist (duh, we know) pursuing my absolute most favorite thing in the world. I grew up in a smaller town outside of Sacramento California. I received my Bachelor's Degree from California State University Long Beach's Bob Cole Conservatory of Music and studied with Dr. John Barcellona. I now live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania with my cat Dmitri (named after Dmitri Shostakovich). I moved to PA to attend Carnegie Mellon University for my Master's Degree to study with THE Alberto Almarza. I'm almost finished there with one year left so I'm beginning to dip my toe into the deep, deep, deep water of ... orchestra auditions. There's a big scary world out there after university but I think I'm finally ready to take the first leap.
These blog posts are most likely going to be sporadic. I've never been a fan of writing but I decided trying something completely new could be good for me. There are a few topics I have in mind that I think would be interesting to write about. Most posts will likely be from my perspective/opinion. If you have experienced differently or think differently, that's okay; but what I'm not here for is being mean or leaving rude comments. So let's get this formality out of the way: if you have nothing nice to say, DON'T say anything at all. If we see things differently, that's okay. Just accept that other people have different thoughts and perspectives and leave it at that. Also I'm aware that my use of grammar isn't always impeccable and frankly, I don't care. You know what, I mean even; if there: is random marks' everywhere.
With that out of the way, I'm excited to see where this blog thing goes. I hope it's as fun and therapeutic for me as it is entertaining and informative to you. For now, I think this is all I have to say. Writing feels...okay...for now. I'll see you at my next post.
GPYF! (that means go practice your flute)
Bye,
Jeff
